Published multiple papers on topics including climate change, atmospheric blocking, and seasonal prediction; involved in several research projects, including exploring the UNSEEN approach through seasonal forecast (PRIN PNRR TRANSLATE) and using low-resolution climate models to explore the Eocene and other paleoclimates (PRIN 2022 EPOCHAL).
Research Experience
Participates in the development of the EC-Earth Earth System Model; was the CNR responsible for the EC-Earth CMIP6 integrations that will be part of the next IPCC report; since 2022, involved in the Destination Earth initiative, coordinating the model evaluation working package in the Climate Adaptation Digital Twin and coordinating the development of the AQUA software for model evaluation; currently developing a low resolution configuration of the EC-Earth4 climate model to support paleoclimate simulations.
Education
At CNR-ISAC since 2017.
Background
Paolo Davini is a climatologist with a physics background. His main scientific interest lies in extratropical climate variability, particularly the ability of Global Climate Models to reproduce spatial and temporal modes of variability such as atmospheric blocking or the North Atlantic Oscillation, and their related climate extremes.
Miscellany
Runs an outreach project for the Italian audience, noncivuoleunascienza, featuring funny drawings to explain science concepts; maintains a Google Scholar profile and a GitHub account.
