Resume
Academic Achievements
- Published the first edition of the 'Python and Spark ML' book; made significant contributions in developing state-of-the-art big data pre-processing techniques for classification, novel big data learning algorithms, and addressing extreme big data problems such as imbalanced classification.
Research Experience
- Worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Data Mining and Modelling for Biomedicine group (DAMBI) at Ghent University, now a member of the Computation Optimisation and Learning Lab (COL) at the University of Nottingham.
Education
- MSc and PhD in Computer Science from the University of Granada, Spain.
Background
- Associate Professor of Data Science at the School of Computer Science, University of Nottingham. Research interests include data mining, data reduction, semi-supervised learning, extreme classification, and big data learning. Particularly fascinated by the challenges associated with processing large amounts of data to extract valuable knowledge in extreme frameworks.
Miscellany
- Born and raised in Atarfe, a small town near Granada, Spain; very interested in biometrics, especially fingerprint recognition; also interested in the application of evolutionary models in real-world optimization problems.
