- Worked as a research scientist at TUM for seven years
- From 1994 to 1998, worked at Xerox Research Center Europe in Grenoble, France, as a senior scientist, project manager, and group leader in the Coordination Technology area
- Joined the University of the Bundeswehr Munich in 1998 as a full professor of Computer Science at the Institute for Software Technology
- Collaborated with John G. Zabolitzky and his team to run a 'museum' called datArena on the university campus

Studied computer science and mathematics, receiving his diploma and doctorate from the Technical University of Munich (TUM); Completed Habilitation in Computer Science at TUM in 1993.
