Research Experience
- Leads a research group focused on addressing the challenges humans face during space exploration missions, with particular emphasis on astronaut biomedical issues and space human factors.
Background
- Associate Professor in the Smead Aerospace Engineering Sciences department, currently serving as the Associate Chair for Department Affairs. He is a faculty member in the Biomedical Engineering and Robotics programs at CU-Boulder. His research group is part of the Bioastronautics Laboratory and he is a faculty affiliate of BioServe Space Technologies. His research focuses on the challenges humans face during space exploration missions, specifically astronaut biomedical issues, space human factors, human sensorimotor/vestibular function and adaptation, interaction of human-autonomous and human-robotic systems, cognitive state (including mental workload, trust, situation awareness, spatial disorientation) estimation, mathematical models of spatial orientation perception, and human-in-the-loop experiments.
Miscellany
- Often looking for motivated PhD students, MS students, and undergraduates to join his research group. Strong backgrounds in engineering, applied mathematics, and/or human physiology, as well as prior research experience, are desirable.
