Research Experience
  • He is an Associate Professor at the Department of Geographic Engineering, Geophysics and Energy at the University of Lisbon (DEGGE-FCUL), where he has been lecturing a wide range of subjects in the fields of Meteorology, Climatology, Physics, and Numerical Modelling. He has participated in several research projects such as 'Application of Long-Term Forecasting to Portugal' (1992-1995), 'Daily Forecasts of River Flows of Mondego' (1999-2002), and 'Forecast of River Flows in Portuguese Dams' (1995-1996).
Education
  • BSc in Physics (1979) from the University of Lisbon (FCUL); License in Geophysics (1981) from the University of Lisbon (FCUL); PhD in Atmospheric Science (1991) from the University of Missouri-Columbia (USA).
Background
  • His research interests include remote sensing of active fires and burned areas by satellite, the retrieval of land surface temperature and emissivity using information from satellites, the study of directional effects on the retrieval of land surface temperature, the harmonization of long time series of land surface temperature using satellite data, the short and medium range assessment of meteorological fire risk, the recovery of vegetation after large wild fires, the meteorological conditions associated with extreme events (droughts, heat waves, etc.), and the activity of planetary waves in the atmosphere and its impact on climate variability. He is an Associate Professor at the Department of Geographic Engineering, Geophysics and Energy at the University of Lisbon (DEGGE-FCUL), where he has been lecturing a wide range of subjects in the fields of Meteorology, Climatology, Physics, and Numerical Modelling.
Miscellany
  • He is a member of Instituto Dom Luiz (IDL) and was an elected member of the Faculty Assembly (2009-2013).
