Academic Achievements
  • Author and co-author of more than 150 papers published in journals, international conferences, and collections. Involved in the design, development, and evaluation of software frameworks and methodologies for applying End-User Development in various domains and contexts, including ambient intelligence applied to the smart home. Collaborated on projects such as the network of excellence on End-User Development 'EUD-Net IST-2001-37470', funded by the European Community, and other projects like 'FAIRWIS - Trade Fair Web-based Information Services' (2000-2001) and 'FairsNet - On-line Solutions for Trade Fairs' (2002-2003), funded by the European Community, and DE_VISU project (2001-2002), funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research. An Expert Member, WG Coordinator, and Websites Coordinator of the IFIP TC13 International Federation for Information Processing Technical Committee on Human–Computer Interaction (IFIP TC13). On the Steering Committee of the International Symposium on End-User Development (IS-EUD) and has been on the Steering Committee of EUSSET, a European networked organizational forum dedicated to the development of technology for society.
Research Experience
  • Since April 2005, he has worked at the Computer Science Department of UNIBA, first as a research fellow, then as an Assistant Professor, and now as an Associate Professor. From January to March 2008, he was a visiting scientist at the Center for LifeLong Learning and Design (L3D) - Department of Computer Science and Institute of Cognitive Science, University of Colorado at Boulder (USA). He has made several shorter visits to international research institutions, collaborating with colleagues who are co-authors of some of his publications.
Education
  • Received the Laurea Degree in Computer Science with full marks and honors from the University of Bari in 2001. In March 2005, he obtained a Ph.D. in Computer Science from UNIBA, with a thesis titled 'Software environments for supporting End-User Development'.
Background
  • Research interests include Human-Computer Interaction, Software Engineering, End-User Development, Internet of Things, Smart Environments, Visual Interactive Systems, Component-Based Software Development, WWW Interfaces, Multimodal and Multimedia Interaction. Currently, he is an Associate Professor of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) at the Computer Science Department of the University of Bari Aldo Moro (UNIBA).
