The team has addressed key biological questions regarding protein transport within cells, such as the import of membrane proteins into mitochondria and how megadalton-sized chaperones assist in protein folding.
Research Experience
Leads the Schanda Group, which uses nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy in conjunction with a variety of biophysical, biochemical, in-silico, and in-vivo methods. The group also develops new NMR methodologies for solving three-dimensional structures of large proteins or protein complexes.
Background
Focused on understanding how biomolecules, especially proteins, perform their tasks through their structural dynamics. Research interests include protein transport mechanisms, the relationship between enzyme active site motions and function, and the relative movement of protein domains.
