- Has published multiple papers in top conferences such as CVPR, ECCV, and journals like IEEE TPAMI, IEEE TEVC; among them, NSGA-Net: Neural Architecture Search using Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm won the Best Paper Award at GECCO 2019.

- Currently, he is an Assistant Professor at City University of Hong Kong (CityU); led the HZL team which won the Excellent Award (ranked 6/566) in the Glaucoma grAding from Multi-Modality imAge (GAMMA) Challenge at the MICCAI OMIA workshop'21.

- He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Michigan State University under the supervision of Prof. Kalyanmoy Deb (FIEEE, FACM).
