Active as a reviewer for the European Commission and other funding agencies, and a member of the organizing committee of several conferences and workshops in the field of robotics and computer vision. He has published more than 100 scientific papers.
Research Experience
Currently, he is the team leader of the Robotics & Autonomous Systems unit of the Department of Mechanics at the Belgian Royal Military Academy. He is also a senior researcher at this institute with a focus on developing robotic solutions for defense and security challenges. He leads multiple national projects as well as two European projects: COURAGEOUS on counter-drone (developing the next international test standard for counter-drone solutions) and ORIGAMI on counter-counter-drone (developing drone swarms that are resilient to counter-drone measures).
Education
Received his Diploma in Mechanical Engineering in 2001 from Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and his Doctoral Degree in Engineering in 2010 from Vrije Universiteit Brussel and the Belgian Royal Military Academy (RMA).
Background
Senior Researcher and Team Leader in the field of Robotics & Autonomous Systems. His research interests include methodologies for perceiving and controlling multi-agent robotic systems across air, land, and maritime domains. His main goal is to find new ways to make multiple robotic systems capable of understanding their environment and deciding on optimal collaborative strategies. Prominent application examples are crisis management robots, humanitarian demining robots, robots for surveillance applications, and generally robotics for tough environments.
