Research Experience
Taught at the Department of Mechanics, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague from 1985 to 1991; Worked as a research engineer at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology at Lausanne (EPFL) in the Laboratory of Structural and Continuum Mechanics (LSC) from 1994 to 2004, supervising two doctoral students, Simon Rolshoven and Peter Grassl; Since August 2004, has been working as a professor in the Department of Mechanics, Czech Technical University in Prague.

Graduated from the Czech Technical University in Prague in 1985; Started graduate studies at Northwestern University in 1991, supervised by Prof. Zdenek P. Bazant.

Personal Interests: Developed a short advanced course on numerical modeling of deformation and failure of materials, taught at various European universities; Also contributed to the development of OOFEM, an object-oriented finite element package.
